Yom HaKippurim – The Day of the Coverings

Yom HaKippurim – Day of Coverings

Leviticus 16

Numbers 23

Three main characters –

High Priest, two goats

Yeshua is all three . . .

“. . . we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Yeshua, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. (Heb 4:14)

And Christ came, High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation.  (Heb 9:11)

Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. (Heb 9:12)

For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins. (Heb 10:4)

Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. (Heb 7:25)

Now this is the main point of the things we are saying: We have such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, (Heb 8:1)

“And The Priest, who is anointed and consecrated to minister as priest in His Father’s stead, shall make atonement; and put on the linen clothes, the holy garments; (Lev 16:32)

Then (Joseph) bought fine linen, took (Yeshua) down, and wrapped Him in the linen.  (Mark 15:46)

Cast lots  – “Then Aaron shall cast lots for the two goats: one lot for the LORD and the other lot for the scapegoat. (Lev 16:8)

Psalm 22:18 They divide My garments among them, And for My clothing they cast lots.

 (Psa 22:18)

“Aaron shall lay both his hands on the head of the live goat, confess over it all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions, concerning all their sins, putting them on the head of the goat, and shall send it away into the wilderness by the hand of a suitable man.

 (Lev 16:21)

For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. (2Cor 5:21)

And immediately the Spirit drove Him into the wilderness. (Mark 1:12)

“The goat shall bear on itself all their iniquities to an uninhabited land; and he shall release the goat in the wilderness. (Lev 16:22)

`Where I am going, you cannot come,’ . . . (John 13:33)

“Then Aaron shall come into the tabernacle of meeting, shall take off the linen garments which he put on when he went into the Holy Place, and shall leave them there. (Lev 16:23)

And Peter arose and ran to the tomb; and stooping down, he saw the linen cloths lying by themselves; (Luke 24:12)

“He is not here, but is risen!  (Luke 24:6)

Messiah Yeshua, Who died, and furthermore is also risen, it is He Who is at the right hand of YHVH, it is He Who makes intercession for us. (Rom 8:34)

“For YHVH so loves the world, that He gave His uniquely begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to YHVH through the death of His Son, how much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His resurrected life. (Rom 5:10)

He – Messiah Yeshua/Jesus the Christ – IS the Lamb, the Ram, the Red Heifer, The Preeminent Sheaf, the Two Goats and He is our High Priest – He IS Everything needed to bring us into relationship with our  Father . . .

Son of Nun, Son of Life

Son of Nun – Son of Life

A little while back, Rhonda started us down a path, being prompted to look once again at something we had explored briefly in the past. It is the concept of ‘all creation’ being created ‘male and female’, and how it all responds accordingly and properly, beyond mere physicality or sexuality, but rather, spiritually. That recent exploration took us to a passage in Hosea, Hosea 2:21-22, that uses and translates the Hebrew word ‘anah’ as ‘hear’ or ‘respond’.

We just couldn’t seem to get that little word ‘anah’ out of our minds. She kept being prompted again and again, commenting over and over ‘we need to look at that word’. There just seemed to be something about those three little letters, and, in particular, the ‘n’ sound in the center. Well, here’s just a portion of what is hidden in that letter, which is also a word, hidden within a word, a true example of our Father YHVH’s ‘Bible Codes’.

The word is ‘anah’, which means ‘to respond to; to answer in response’.

The Hebrew spelling of the word anah is ayin, nun, hey.

Every Hebrew letter is also a word and has individual and distinct meaning.

Simply put, the ayin is the word for ‘eye’ and the hey means ‘to behold’. (makes sense)  We already understood some of the meaning of the first and last letters, but we were somewhat unfamiliar, and, at the same time fascinated and drawn to this little letter ‘nun’.

The letter ‘nun’ (which is also a word) is spelled  – nun, vav, nun soffit.

For those that might not be familiar with Hebrew, the nun – pronounced noon (the hebrew ‘n’ sound) is one of 5 hebrew letters that have a different form when used at the end of a word. The term used for that different ending form of the letter is ‘soffit’ (sofeet).  We will explain a little later why that little tidbit is so intriguing.

Nun is the 14th letter of the Hebrew alphabet – an interesting number.

It is the number of years Jacob worked to finally get his bride.

Fourteen is the number of the children of Rachel in Gen 46:19-22.

14  – two sevens – is the number of lambs each day during Sukkot, the feast of Tabernacles. (Numbers 29:12-ff).

But on the 8th day, there is only one group of 7 lambs, an image of our Father bringing together the two sticks/two loaves/the two houses/the two donkeys/the two fish/the two houses in and through the work of His Right Hand – Yeshua.)

“ . . . for the kingdoms of the earth have become the Kingdom of our God.” (Rev 11:15)

And again, nun is not only a letter, but also a word. It is both an Aramaic word for ‘fish’ as well as a Hebrew word for ‘fish’ or ‘posterity’, the root of which means ‘to propagate, to bring life’.

The first time we see in Scripture, not just the letter, but the word ‘nun’, is in Exodus 33:11.

It introduces us to Joshua (Yehoshua – YHVH saves), the son of Nun – The Son of Life, The Son that propagates and brings life, a type and shadow of Yeshua (Salvation), the Son that is The Way , The Truth and The Life.

In Gen 48:15-16, we see, in the Hebrew, the use of a phrase that actually refers to ‘fish’ in the blessings for Joseph, Ephraim and Manasseh.  – “And he (Israel) blessed Joseph, and said  “The Elohim, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac did walk, the God which fed me all my life long unto this day, 16 The Angel which redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them ‘grow’ into a multitude in the midst of the earth.””

{‘grow’ – dagah – (as fishes do increase) into a multitude in the midst of the earth}.

And that brings to mind a couple more passages in Scripture that mention ‘fish’ and ‘fishing’.

Jeremiah 16:16 – I will send for many fishers, says YHVH . . .

Matthew 4:19 – Come, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men, says Yeshua.

“There is a lad here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are they among so many?” (John 6:9)

Here’s another interesting nugget concerning the letter ‘nun’.  The Gematria (numeric value and meaning) of the letter nun is ‘50’. Hopefully we all understand the number ‘50’ to be an allusion to jubilee, restoration, new life, all of which point to Messiah Yeshua, His first coming and His ultimate return and the restoration of all things. (Acts 3:19-21)

Oh yeah, remember, we mentioned that little tidbit about the different forms of the letter ‘nun’ within the word ‘nun’? The word (and the letter) is spelled nun, vav, nun soffit. And, just as a reminder, Hebrew is read from right to left. In this word ‘nun’, the first letter ‘nun’ resembles something that has been bent, representing humility and humble faithfulness. The second letter (the vav) is the spike or nail that connects heaven and earth. That ‘vav’ is Yeshua, the One nailed to a cross to be the reconciliation between us and our Father YHVH and for all who will come to Yeshua. The last letter, the nun soffit, is not bent but rather straight and upright, representing the reward for faithfulness and humility.

Remember Yeshua’s words in Matthew 23:12? “And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.”  We see those same thoughts echoed in 1 Peter 5:6. “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty Hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time”.

And obviously, all this points us to the example of our Messiah Yeshua. “And being found in fashion as a man, He humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.  9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted Him, and hath given Him a Name which is above every name.” (Phi 2:8)

Even the sages of old (whom we rarely quote) taught the word ‘nun’ in psalm 72:17 as a reference to Messiah ben David, the One we know as Yeshua/Jesus, the Returning King.

“His name shall be forever: His name shall be ‘continued’ (nun) as long as the sun. (literally in Heb. ‘continued’ – His name shall propagate, bring life}: and men shall be blessed in Him: all nations shall call Him blessed “(Psa 72:17)

“And it shall come to pass in that day, I will respond (Anah), saith YHVH, I will respond to the heavens, and they shall respond to the earth; 22 And the earth shall respond to the grain, and the wine, and the oil; and they shall respond to Jezreel. 23 And I will sow her unto me in the earth; and I will have mercy upon her that had not obtained mercy; and I will say to them which were not my people, Thou art my people; and they shall say, Thou art my God.” (Hos 2:21-23)

Anah – to respond –ayin, nun, hey – “The eye beholds the One who humbled Himself and is exalted, the One Who brings and propagates Life.”

Blessed is He Who Comes in the Name of YHVH

And He IS coming . . . are you ready?

HIS COVERING, NOT OURS

HIS COVERING, NOT OURS . . .

Remember the former things of old, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me,

10 Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things that are not yet done, Saying,`My counsel shall stand, And I will do all My pleasure,’  (Isa 46:9-10 NKJ)

Moreover, the Spiritual is not first, but the natural, and afterward the Spiritual. (1 Cor 15:46)

Did you realize Adam and Eve were the first Priests and Kings?

“Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”” (Gen 1:28)

“And YHVH Elohim took the man and settled him in the garden to tend (serve) and keep (guard, have charge of) it.” (Gen 2:15)

They were charged with specific authority and responsibility. They failed.  Israel failed.  We fail.

Adam and Eve tried to cover themselves with fig leaves they had sown together with their own hands, and their covering was insufficient.

The Creator had to provide the only Sufficient covering – skins – which required bloodshed.

“ . . . without the shedding of blood there is no remission . . .” (Heb 9:22)

Now, let’s fast forward to the Tabernacle in the wilderness and the earthly, physical priesthood – an earthly picture of the Eternal Priesthood of Messiah.

Numbers 4:5-19

Kohath was to carry the Holy Things, but first, those Holy Things had to be covered with skins (?) by the High Priest so that those carrying those Holy Things did not die . . .

Without the proper covering, the Covering provided by The High Priest, it meant death for those who were to carry the Holy Things.

“And when The High Priest has finished covering the sanctuary . . . then the children of Kohath shall come to carry; and they shall not touch any Holy Thing, lest they die . . . (Num 4:15)

“ . . . make sure Kohath (The Assembly) does not get cut off; and do this so that they may live and not die . . .” (Num 4:18-19)

(John 17:12 – I didn’t lose any . . .)

“ . . . do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?” (1 Cor 6:19)

“And we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency  of the power may be of God and not of us.” (2 Cor 4:7)

So everything that was present and taking place in the Tabernacle is to be present and taking place in this tabernacle of our bodies and in The Body Universal . . .

Wash – in the water of The Word (Eph 5:26)

Flesh on the altar – living sacrifice- we willingly put our flesh on the altar because He willingly put His flesh on the wood . . .  (Romans 12:2)

And the Holy Place –

Golden Altar – incense – prayers of the saints (Rev 5:8)

        Showbread & Golden Table – 12 challahs – 2 rows of 6 (Lev 24:5-6)

        ‘Grafted in’ . . . ‘made a part of . . .’ (Eph 2; Romans 11)

Golden Lampstand with 7 lamps – (Exo 25:37; Rev 1:12)

        Light . . . Be light . . . (Exo 25:37; John 1:9)

        Matt 5:14 –

                Good Works? – Matt 25:34-ff ; Isaiah 58;

Light under a bushel? (10 virgins)

Lamp and Light, feet and path – Psalm 119:105

        Beautiful are the feet . . . – Isaiah 52:7

        ‘  . . . narrow is the path . . .” – Matt 7:14

And this path leads to the Bridal Chamber –

And the bride makes herself ready – Rev 19:7-8

Ok let’s get back to ‘Kohath’ – The Assembly – and the Gold and the Oil and the Fire that we are to carry as we go –

Oil and Fire – Zech 4; 1 Samuel 16:12;

And we have an anointing (a smearing) from the Holy One. (1 John 2:20)

Gold – buy from Me gold refined in the fire . . . ? Rev 3:17

“The Spirit of the LORD GOD is upon Me, because the LORD has anointed Me . . .

To give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;” (Isaiah 61:1,3)

For I stand at the door and knock . . . Rev 3:20

The tent is dark; He is The Door and He is The Light . . .

Remember – my righteousness is not based on anything I do – but rather Christ in me, the Hope of Glory.

Fig Tree

(He) declares the end from the beginning, and from ancient times that which is not yet done, saying – ‘My counsel shall stand. And I will do all My pleasure. (Isaiah 46:10)

Moreover, the Spiritual is not first, but the natural, and afterward the Spiritual. (1 Cor 15:46)

“This Moses whom they rejected . . . This is he, that was with the church in the wilderness . . .” (Acts 7:35,38 KJV)

Let’s take a look at the ‘Cursing of the Fig Tree’ . . .

Now in the morning, as (Messiah) returned to the city, HE was hungry. And seeing a fig tree by the road, He came to it and found nothing on it but leaves, and He said to it, “Let no fruit grow on you ever again.”  . . . the tree withered away.  (Matt 21:18-19)

Mark 11:13 says ‘it was not the season for figs . . .’

The Fig Tree is ultimately a picture of the entire Body of Messiah.

‘made a part of the citizenship’, ‘grafted into’ (Eph 2:12,13; Romans 11:17)

In the passages in both Matthew 21 and Mark 11, we see Messiah being described as ‘hungry’ (?), He curses the fig tree, cleanses the Temple and rebukes the religious leadership and speaks of doubtless, limitless, believing Faith.

First, the word for ‘hungry’ not only means mere physical hunger. It also means ‘to ardently crave’ and ‘to seek with eager desire’. Does not Messiah ardently crave, eagerly desire fruit from His Tree, His Body?

And unlike the physical fig tree in the passage above, His Fig Tree – The Body of Believers, The Priests and Kings after His order – is to NEVER be in a season with ‘no fruit’. We are to always be about producing fruit.

The tree in these passages looked good from a distance, and was lushly covered with ‘fig leaves’, but upon closer inspection exhibited ‘no fruit’.

(side note – any reference to ‘Fig Leaves’ should automatically take us to the scene in the Garden when Adam and Eve attempted to cover themselves.)

In the passages above, Messiah rebuked the activities of the Temple and the leadership thereof, because there was no fruit, but rather the focus was on their own ‘kingdom’. (Vineyard – Matt 20)

They had ‘covered’ themselves, and perhaps because of all the trappings, they looked good from afar, but their covering was worthless and would ultimately lead to their destruction.

They had faith in themselves and what they were doing, rather than in The One Who is the only Sufficient Covering.

“For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds . . .” (Matt 5:20)

And without that doubtless, believing, expectant, reliant Faith in The One Who supports the Tree – The Root – and provides for it, we cannot produce the fruit He is hungry for.

And with Faith the size of a mustard seed, Faith that believes there is not limit in what our Messiah can do and will do for us and through us by the His work on the cross and the Gift and necessity of the Holy Spirit, we can be in  a constant season of fruit-bearing that our Messiah so eagerly desires, that He is hungry for.

Now, back to the first mention of ‘Fig Leaves’.

We fail.

They tried to cover themselves with fig leaves they had sown together with their own hands, and their covering was insufficient.

The Creator had to provide the only Sufficient covering – skins – which required bloodshed.

“ . . . without the shedding of blood there is no remission . . .” (Heb 9:22)

CALENDARS?

Calendars?

Recently, the subject of ‘calendars’ came up (in a very amicable way) so we decided to take a few minutes to see if ‘equal weights and measures’ is being applied in the exploration and application of this subject.

This is not an attempt to necessarily convert anyone from their current practice, but it IS an effort to communicate factual information so we can make informed decisions. This is also not an attempt to give an exhaustive exposition on calendar matters, but rather an effort to address just a few of the key questions, complaints and assumptions concerning calendar systems.

Our Heavenly Father left us with a set of instructions and His Word states that these instructions are not too difficult. And although it seems at times those instructions in The Word appear a little fuzzy, if we will allow Scripture to interpret Scripture, the fuzziness will become much more clear.

First, let’s understand that Scripture never dictates a set number of months in a calendar year. Although many calendar systems have the solar year divided into 12 distinct divisions (12 months), there is no such set division in Scripture. So when we begin to critique calendar systems, we should do so from the standpoint of The Word and not from the perspective of extra-biblical systems.

Scripture specifically lays out the pattern of the Gospel of Messiah Yeshua (Jesus the Christ) through the feasts of YHVH in the first seven months of the Biblical Calendar as laid out in Leviticus 23, but beyond that there is no set number of months per year dictated in the Bible.

Another concern that arises for some is the concept of intercalation (adding of extra days or weeks periodically) to make what’s on paper line up with what’s going in the atmosphere outside our window. What we mean by that is to make sure that when our paper calendar says it’s spring, it’s actually spring outside our window and not still winter.

A solar year consists of approximately 365 days, 6 hours and 9 minutes. That’s why our standard Gregorian calendar adds a single 24 hour period once every 4 years (4 x 6 hours is approx. 24 hours or one standard day). In that way, over a period of decades or centuries, our written calendar does not come out of sync with the natural seasons set into motion by our Creator and marked by the lights in the heavens. We are not declaring the Gregorian Calendar to be accurate biblically. We are just merely stating the process by which it is kept in line and in sync with the seasons.

And there are some who not only have concerns about the Gregorian calendar, since it is not based on a Scriptural timeline, but also have issues with what is referred to as ‘the jewish calendar’ or ‘the orthodox calendar’ due to it being an ‘intercalated’ system. Due to those concerns, there are those that turn to other calendar systems, such as the Zadok or Enoch Calendar systems. One reason for the popularity of these systems is they have the solar year divided up and packaged neatly in twelve months encompassing the four seasons and consistently set days and dates with a total of 364 days in each calendar year.

But since there are actually 365 days and a little over 6 hours in every solar year, how is The Zadok or Enoch system prevented or corrected from ‘coming out of sync’ with the natural progression of seasons as put into motion by our Creator? Through the process of ‘intercalation’ – the process of adding days or weeks to the calendric progression.

Since the Zadok or Enoch systems only have 364 days in each cycle and a true solar cycle is 365 days 6 hours and nine minutes, after a period of 25 years the written Zadok or Enoch calendar will be out of sync with the natural seasons by a full month. After 2 ½ decades of following the Zadok/Enoch systems, what’s on paper will say Spring and outside the window it will still be Winter. How is this problem dealt with? Intercalation.

To allow the Zadok/Enoch systems to stay on track (or to put them back on track) with the natural progression of the seasons, one full week has to be added every seventh year (sabbatical year) and another two full weeks intercalated every 4th sabbatical year (every 28 years). So not only does the Enoch/Zadok calendar systems not eliminate the concept of intercalation, they actually require the concept of intercalation to remain practical and useable.

But if we can approach the concepts of calendars in the same manner by which we should approach all Scriptural matters – as unbiased as possible – then the calendar issue would be much less troublesome.

So let’s take a look at what our Father has laid out for us in Scripture.

There are moedim – appointed times – beyond just the ones that we normally think of. New moon, weekly sabbath and the annual feasts of YHVH are all appointed times. But there are others as well. Sunrise and sunset are ‘set times’. The solstices and equinoxes are also ‘set times’, based on the lights in the heavens. You can virtually set your watch by their regularity. So how does that help us follow a calendar withOUT imposing biases? We do this by remembering that YHVH set the lights in the skies to mark the days, years and seasons and that Scripture does not mandate a set number of months in a year (beyond the 7 months of the pattern of the Feasts).

In Exodus 12, YHVH states that ‘this shall be the beginning of months . . .’ That should qualify as the beginning of the year. Later in those same passages it refers to this first month as Aviv or Spring. If we understand that astronomical spring begins at the Spring Equinox (which is an appointed time based on the lights in the heavens) and the new (Chadash – renewed) moon marks the beginning the month, we should be able to determine the first month of the new year and lay out the remainder of the year based on that initial starting point coupled with our Father’s instructions. And how many months will there be? Whatever number is required to bring us around to the beginning of our rehearsal cycle again.

Rhonda and I do not follow any organized calendar system, per se. We merely start with the Spring Equinox, then look for the first new moon following the Equinox, (which will constitute the first day of the first month) and then countdown 14 days to the day of the Passover.

For example, the Spring Equinox for 2024 falls on March 19/20, based on the alignment of the lights in the heavens. This begins the astronomical season of Spring. The first new moon after the beginning of the season of spring is April 8th, which marks the first day of the first month of this new Biblical year (Exodus 12:2). Counting down 14 days (Exodus 12:6; 12:8; Leviticus 23:5) brings us to April 22 (Passover) and April 23 (a full moon) as the first day of Unleavened Bread for 2024.

The need for ‘Intercalation’ comes into play when we require a system that we can encapsulate in a way that fits man’s box rather than simply following our Creator’s instructions without eisegetical bias.

According to Scripture, our Creator’s instructions are not too difficult, and they can and should cause us to think and act outside man’s box.

Our Father works in cycles. May HE give us the wisdom, discernment and insight to understand HIS cycles and the courage to step into them.

Blessings and Shalom in Yeshua’s Name. See ya at Passover. 😊

We are not ‘burned out’ or taking a break . . .As The Lord closes one door, He opens others, allowing us to continue the work He has called us all to – feed the hungry, clothe the needy, lay hands on the sick and pray for the brokenhearted, preach The Gospel of the King and The Kingdom, make disciples, teach obedience, and seek for all the infilling of the Holy Spirit.

And always remember, the important thing is ‘What’s The Word Say?’ . . .

What Is ‘The Word’ ?

‘Scripture’ is a word spoken and heard time and time again in our churches, synagogues and meeting places. According to dictionaries, it is ‘any sacred book or writing, a passage from any sacred book or writing; The Bible;’ We also refer to The Bible – Scripture – as ‘The Word’.
Where does the term ‘The Word’ come from ? The phrase “the Word of the Lord came’ appears almost one hundred times in the The Old Testament, and most of those appearances are followed by this phrase, ‘and said’. So ‘The Word of the Lord came and said . . .’ John tells us this ‘Word’ was in the beginning and took on flesh and walked among them . . .’ It tells us Yeshua is the Word made flesh. He is the living, breathing version of the written Word. Yeshua is not only He that spoke from Mt. Sinai but also that which was spoken.
The title, ‘The Bible’ comes from first century common greek (ta biblia) and literally means ‘The Books’, which is an apt title, understanding the Bible to be not just a book but a collection of books written by numerous authors from different backgrounds and educational levels over a period of more than four millennia. And in all this it is not only a collection of books in which there is no contradiction but that all carry the same theme and thread and point to the same culmination – the last days and the Salvation of Israel.
One thing we seem to lose sight of is the fact that the Bible as we know it today and the ‘Bible’ in Yeshua’s day is not the same collection of books. Don’t hang up yet. What we mean by that is in Yeshua’s day the only Scripture that existed is that which we refer to as the Old Testament. The New Testament ( also called ‘Apostolic Writings’) did not exist in His day. Yeshua, the Apostles, and the others were ‘living’ the NT but it was not compiled as a ‘collection of letters’ and added to the canon of The Bible for another 200 years or more.
“Yes”, you say, “we know all that”. Well, with that understanding, ponder this concept. Paul spoke this admonition in 2 Timothy 3:15 “ . . . from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, reproof, correction, and training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work. 4:1 I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the Word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.” “. . . in the volume of the book it is written of me.” (Hebrews 10, Psalm 40)
So the question ? What ‘Scripture’ and ‘Word’ was Paul referring to in his letter to Timothy if the NT did not exist at that time ? Well, the only Scripture that existed was that which we call the Old Testament. Paul is telling Timothy not only are the Law and the Prophets not done away with but they are the ‘Word’ we are to be ready to preach in and out of season. How can we be sure this is what Paul means ? Because it lines up with what Yeshua says in Matthew 5 . . . 16 “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven. 17 “Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill . 18 “For truly I say to you, heaven and earth shall pass away, but not the slightest stroke of the pen shall pass away from the Law, until all is accomplished (and when will all be accomplished?…at the end of the millineum). 19 “Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and so teaches others, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” The keeping of His ways is not a matter of salvation but of obedience.
So are we saying ‘the Old does away the New’ ? Not at all. We are saying ‘the Old is the foundation for the New’.
“This is what the LORD says: “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths where the good way is, and when you find it walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But the people said, We will not . . .”” Jeremiah 6:16
May that not be said of us in these days . . . Shalom –

That Name means Salvation

That Name means Salvation

Strong’s # 03444 yeshuw`ah {yesh-oo’-aw}

In English His name is Jesus. In the Hebrew language His name is Yeshua (or Y’shua)which translated is ‘Salvation’. It’s what His momma would have called him as a child growing up. In our English alphabet we have 26 letters that carry varying sounds but, as a rule, do not have specific meanings themselves. In the Hebrew alphabet there are 22 characters, each one having not only specific sounds but each letter also carries a numeric value and a specific meaning or definition.
For instance, the letter ‘Bayt’ carries the ‘B’ sound and is also the Hebrew word for ‘house’. So let’s take a closer look at the word and Hebrew name of the Biblical Messiah – Yeshua or Y’shua.
The letters are yod or ‘Y’, shin or ‘Sh’, vav  which here is the vowel sound ‘U’, ayin which sounds like ‘ah’ and is the word for ‘eye’, and finally the letter ‘hay’ which would correspond to the english ‘H’ and would complete the ‘ah’ sound at the end of the word. But do all these letters together actually mean anything beyond the word they form ? Is there any connection between the letters of this word and the One who carries this Name ?
Let’s do a little digging, shall we ?

First the ‘yod’, which means ‘hand’, usually will refer to the right hand or-‘yamin’ which also starts with the letter ‘yod’. Example – Benjamin or Ben Yamin – son of the Right or son of my right hand.

Next, the ‘shin’ or ‘sheen’ which stands for Shaddai, ‘The Almighty’.

After that is the ‘vav’ which is a consonant that can produce a vowel sound. The ‘vav’ is the nail or spike that connects heaven and earth.

The following letter is the ‘ayin’ which is the ‘Eye’. “Behold, the eye (ayin) of the LORD is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his steadfast love;”  Psalm 33:18

And the last letter is the ‘hay’ . . . couple it with the first letter of this word Yeshua and we have the poetic name for God Almighty – Yah – Yod Hay . . .

So what do we have in this word and Name ‘Yeshua’ ?  We have the Right Hand (yod) of God (Shin) , the One that by the nails in His feet and hands is the Spike (vav) that connects heaven and earth. In Him we see ( eye-ayin ) the perfect image of our heavenly Father and through Yeshua’s shed blood Abba sees us for what He intends us to be. And encompassing it all by the first and last letters – the Yod and the Hay, is YAH, Yahweh, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of creation, God Almighty, and Yahweh of Hosts is His Name. And His Son ? Yeshua . . . Salvation.
“You shall call His name Yeshua (Jesus in the english) , for He shall save His people from their sins”.
There is salvation in no other Name. Why? That Name IS Salvation.
Sometimes we do lose a little something in the translation . . . but no matter the translation, He hears us when we call on Him . . . regardless of what we call Him . . .

The Cup

THE CUP

Following in line with the teaching concerning the Crown of Thorns, another element deserving of our attention at this season is ‘The Cup’. For the purposes and point of this teaching, our focus will be on the ‘cup’ referred to by Yeshua during His prayer in the garden. ( Matthew 26:36-42) For many this will be ‘old news’ but, hopefully, for some this will be new understanding. Also here, allow us to briefly explain the name ‘Yeshua’ and our use of it. The English translations of the first chapters of Matthew and Luke basically make the same statement – “ . . . you shall call His Name Jesus . . .”
That Name evokes so much for so many. Let’s look just a little deeper. Mary was of Hebrew descent and Hebrew would have been her mother tongue. More than likely, the Angel would have spoken audibly to her in her native tongue. It is NO coincidence that the Hebrew word the Angel would have spoken to her, the word from which the English word ‘Jesus’ is derived, is the word Yeshua – a Hebrew noun which translates as ‘Salvation’. Could it be anymore fitting to what the Angel declared ? “ . . . and He shall save His people . . .” Salvation – Yeshua . . . Now, back to ‘The Cup’. In His prayer in the gospel accounts Yeshua is not speaking metaphorically or poetically in these passages, although true, there was no actual physical cup in His hand. Yet the cup referred to was very much physical and real. Let’s dig a little deeper and find that cup. To do that we must return to the foundational teachings of the Old Testament in general and the Torah in specific. Let’s take a look in the book of Numbers beginning with chapter 5 and verse 12 and following.
Here we have instructions on dealing with an ‘unfaithful wife’ by her ‘jealous husband’. In these passages we see the use of an actual cup in the determination of guilt or innocence, judgment or pardon. As you read these verses you will see the use of a cup, water( The Word) , dust ( element of creation) and the presence of the Priest. All this to determine if the husband is justly jealous and the wife justly due punishment. If the wife drinks the contents of the cup and there is no effect, then she is innocent. If guilty, there will be obvious and grave consequences and she will ultimately die. So what does this have to do with Jesus and ‘the cup’ and the prayer in the garden ?
The Apostolic Writings ( New Testament) make multiple references to the ‘congregation of believers’ both past, present and future as ‘the bride’. Isaiah 54:5 declares ‘God is the Husband . . .’ Deuteronomy 4:24 tells us ‘God is a consuming fire and a Jealous God . . .’, a jealous husband if you will. In Ephesians 5:25 the Apostle Paul admonishes husbands to ‘love your wives’ (bride) as Messiah loved the congregation of believers and willingly gave himself in her place’. Is the picture starting to come together ?
The unfaithful bride is us, this body we call the ‘church’ and God calls Israel ( Eph. 2:11-14). The Godhead is the husband. Yeshua is also the priest. (Heb. 4:14) And He keeps and observes His Father’s principles and rules without exception.
So when Yeshua kneels to pray before His Father in the garden, ‘The Cup’ is all too real. It is the cup of judgment that, if drunk by His bride, she will die, for she is guilty. Therefore the eternal loving Husband takes from her hand the cup of judgment she is justly due and drinks her judgment unto Himself, saving her from the curse of the law which is death (Gal. 3:13).
So as we celebrate this season of Passover, let us ‘remember His death until He comes again’, for His death should have been mine.
May this be a blessing to you and yours, especially during this Season.
Shalom – J & R

Revised Re-Post . . . ” A Crown of Thorns”

A CROWN OF THORNS

When we begin to look at the process of Yeshua’s ‘examination’ ( Exo. 12:3) and death, one of the elements taking center stage is the crown of thorns. It was ‘plaited’ by the roman soldiers and violently forced down onto the brow and scalp of Yeshua. But why a ‘crown’ made out of thorny branches ? It was not happenstance. It could have been made out of anything. Was it just a manner of barbaric mockery by the roman occupiers or is there more ? Is there a deeper meaning to this seemingly senseless and torturous creation of man ? The answer is a resounding ‘yes’.
One thing we must remember. Yeshua’s coming does more than just save the souls of men. His return culminates the ‘restoration of all things’ . . . “creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and brought into the same glorious freedom as the children of God.” ( Acts 3:21, Romans 8:19-22) So what does this have to do with the ‘crown of thorns’ ?
Remember what Father God told Adam when he and Eve disobeyed ? “ Cursed is the very ground, because of you. Thorns and thistles it will produce. And you shall eat of the herb of the field by the sweat of your brow until you return to the earth. For from dust were you made and to dust you will return.” (Gen. 3:17-19) When Cain and Abel brought their respective offerings to God, Abel’s offering was accepted but Cain’s was not. The basic offerings ( minchah ) were the same. Why was Abel’s offering acceptable to God ? Because it was covered by an offering from the flock – a blood covering. But why did the grain offering need a blood covering ? Because since the ground was cursed, so was everything that came from the ground. And that which is from sin cannot come into the presence of God without being covered.
The Apostolic Writings (New Testament) tell us Yeshua came to deliver us from the curse of the Law. We must remember the curse does not affect just mankind but also all creation, therefore all creation must be redeemed. To be redeemed from the curse brought about by the sin of disobedience requires a ‘blood covering’ ( “ . . . without the shedding of blood there can be no forgiveness of sins . . .” Heb. 9:22)
So as Yeshua is willingly undergoing indescribable pain and torment, the blood, His Blood, is being shed to provide that covering . . . it is applied even to the ground . . . and to the thorns and thistles. For by this crowning, His Lordship and Kingship over all creation is declared and confirmed. As His Blood touches those thorns and thistles, even they are delivered from the curse. When the Crown of Thorns was placed on His head, it was prophetic. It takes us back to the beginning to Genesis 3 where the judgements were pronounced on the ground that it would produce thorns and thistles and man will eat his bread by the sweat of his brow. So when that crown was pushed down on Yeshua’s brow those judgements ( curses ) were covered and overcome by His Blood. Yeshua took the curse upon Himself. “He became sin Who knew no sin . . .”
It is very interesting the Hebrew word for thistle ( dardar – dalet resh dalet resh ) is symbolic of wilderness, desert. Father God many times sends His own into that dry place of the wilderness or desert for a time of correction and learning and then in that very place is where He speaks to and comforts and prepares them. Pruning is not fun, but it is necessary to bear fruit for the Kingdom. The two Hebrew letters that make up the word for thistle – dalet and resh – carry intriguing meanings. Dalet is the Door and Resh is the Head or Chief or First. Yeshua is the Door. He is the First and the Last, the beginning and the end.
So Yeshua, the First Fruits of the Resurrection, the Door to Salvation and Eternity with our Father, willingly pays the price for our sin with His Blood . . . for our life is in His Blood.
“All creation groans and labors with birth pangs until now . . . eagerly awaiting the revealing of the sons of God . . .” Romans 8:19,22

It is also interesting to think on how this passage in Genesis 3 is prophetic in perhaps ways we hadn’t yet considered. Consider where it speaks of the snake being put on his belly and eating dust. Ever since that day, the Serpent has been slithering among the ‘dust’ ( mankind ) stealing, killing and attempting to destroy. The thorns and thistles come out of the dust. All creation comes from that dust and must be redeemed. In the natural, most folks dislike snakes, or are at least cautious of them because they are slithering around in the dust of the earth. If we get too close they will strike at us. In the spiritual, the same thing happens, with Satan taking ‘strikes’ at us, desiring to kill and destroy . . . fiery darts, if you will. The crown of thorns on Yeshua’s head literally reveals His Kingship and the Power of His Blood to redeem all creation. Satan will bruise Yeshua’s heel, but Yeshua will crush the serpent’s head. ( Gen 3:14-15)

May this be a blessing to you and yours, especially during this Season. Shalom –
