As we go through this, please notice the offerings in this passage are very similar to some of those among the weekly offerings of Sukkot, the time of the regathering of the House of Israel . . .
Who birthed Israel (Jacob)? – Rebekah
Who birthed Messiah ? – Israel
For female offspring – 14 days (2 sets of 7) and 66 days – two sets of 33 . . . for a total of two sets of 40 (fulfillment of judgment, things being set right, completion) . . .
one for each House of Israel. Remember, Israel was divided into two houses and it was God’s doing .
Another place we see ‘two sets of 7’ are in the seven daily offerings of Sukkot, the regathering of the House of Israel, the Bride, the female . . .
( Num. 29:12-34)
For a male child – 7 days (one set of 7) and 33 days, for a total of 40 . . .- (fulfillment of judgment, things being set right, completion) . . . on the 8th day the boy is circumcised.
After the total days of her uncleanness are finished ( whether a male or female child) and she is clean, she presents to the Priest the offering of the lamb and the dove, an offering before the Lord to make atonement and she shall be clean from the flow of blood.
(Lev. 12:6-7)
It is interesting at the age of 33 Yeshua (the Lamb) dies and as the High Priest He makes atonement for His bride, offering His Blood as the Lamb, and she is made clean from the blood. ( Let His blood be on us and on our children Matt. 27:25-) . . . and after His departure the Dove was sent . . .
Yeshua came only for the House of Israel . . . In Numbers 29:35-36 we see one set of 7 lambs and one bull . . . for now the two houses have become one . . .‘and the two sticks shall become one in My Hand, says the Lord ( Eze. 37:19). . .’
one restored house . . . one set of 7 plus 33 (Yeshua) = 40 (completion, restoration) plus one bull symbolizing One Nation; and the One Lamb and one Dove signify the uncleanness has been taken away. . .
The offerings during the week of Sukkot . . .
Each day – 14 lambs . . . two sets of 7
On the 8th day of Sukkot . . . one bull and one set of 7 lambs . . . symbolizing completion.
On the eighth day of the male child there is ‘circumcision’ . . . the uncleanness is taken away. At the conclusion of each time period – 33 plus 7 days for the male child, 66 plus 14 (two sevens) for the female child – the mother presents the offerings – Lamb and the Dove – signifying the uncleanness has been taken away . . . One scenario symbolizes the two houses to BE restored and the other scenario signifies the One House Restored.
It is interesting in these short eight verses we see the two houses of Jacob becoming the one restored House in the Father’s Hand through the atoning work of Messiah Yeshua.
Before Israel went into the Land, preparing to keep the Passover, they were all ‘circumcised’ and the uncleanness was rolled away – Gilgal .
The first time they went in was at Passover, the second time will be at Sukkot (Zech.14).

Political or Religous ?
Ooops . . . this article should have preceded the article entitled ‘Either/Or’ . . .

This is one of those articles that is more about asking questions than providing answers. So, let’s jump right in.
It’s amazing how we as people in general will make a statement and then turn right around and contradict ourselves. For example, as good Christians we will fight to post the Ten Commandments from the courthouse to the outhouse and then turn right around and conclude that at least one of them no longer applies. “Remember the Sabbath Day to keep it holy …” Oh yeah, God changed that one. But I didn’t think God changed?
Malachi 3:6: “For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.” So, if God doesn’t change, and He has established certain guidelines and expectations, how does that fact apply to the issues of today, how those issues are defined and how they should be resolved?
There is much debate in many circles concerning the important issues of our day and one question that always arises is whether these issues are political or religious. It’s ironic and many times confusing how a particular issue can be spun by one pundit as political and another “spinner” concludes the exact same issue is purely religious. Which one is correct? Can they both be accurate?
In last week’s edition Howard Coop spoke of a national heritage and he quoted, among others, Benjamin Franklin’s statement and we quote — “I have lived, Sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proof I see of this truth — God governs in the affairs of men.” We have read this quote many times in the past, but this time it caught our attention. “God governs in the affairs of men.” We read that as if it means God is somehow involved or God has some input or God has a vote when the issue comes up.
Now, Mr. Franklin was a pretty sharp fella and he used the word “govern.”
By definition, to govern is “to rule over by right of authority; to exercise sovereign authority over.” This implies God not is only involved or has input in the affairs of men but actually has sovereign authority and the right to rule over those affairs. So, can an issue that we deem as political also be religious by the very nature of the fact God has ultimate rule over those issues? The title of this column is Mining the Truth, so what does the Bible have to to say about this question?
Here are some nuggets to ponder . . .
Proverbs 14:34: Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.
Proverbs 16:20: He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the Lord, happy is he.
Proverbs 16:33: The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof is of the Lord.
Jeremiah 18:9: And at what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it; 10: If it do evil in my sight, that it obey not my voice, then I will repent of the good, wherewith I said I would benefit them.
Psalm 33:12: Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.
Isaiah 26:2: Open ye the gates, that the righteous nation which keepeth the truth may enter in.
If we understand this Book correctly, in God’s eyes important issues should be weighed according to the Word of God. Based on His Word, is it actually possible to separate politcal’ from religious? Next week, we hope to compare these two terms and observe how they should interact with one another, much like “law” and “grace.” Shalom.
“Either / Or ” . . . Mining the Truth
Either / Or . . .
Last time we discussed the concept of ‘political versus religious’ and whether is it really an ‘either/or’ situation. We compared this to the polarized relationship between ‘Law’ and ‘Grace’ that most of us have been taught in our church upbringing. It’s either one or the other, ‘L’ versus ‘G’. But is that what the Bible actually says ? Let’s do some digging.
But first, let’s back up for just a moment and define those two terms – political and religious. ‘Political’, by definition, is that which is ‘of, relating to, or dealing with the structure or affairs of government’. ‘Religious’, on the other hand (or perhaps the same hand) is ‘belief in, reverence to and obedience to a supernatural power seen as creator and governor of the universe and having to do with a system grounded in that belief ‘. Gee, sounds as if Mr. Franklin might have been onto something here. Could these two seemingly opposites be just the opposite of what they seem? . . . or something like that . . .
So what about ‘Law’ and ‘Grace’ ? Well, here again, let’s define some terms. If we were to ask you to define ‘Law’ in a general sense, what would be your answer ? Most folks we have asked this question of answered in these ways – order, structure, recognized standard of behavior. And the opposite of ‘law’ ? Disorder, lack of structure, violation of the standard, chaos, lawlessness. So what about ‘grace’ ? Most in the church understand ‘grace’ to be ‘unmerited favor’. It is the concept of having something really bad coming due to my behavior and instead receiving something really good without being able to do anything to earn it. That’s grace. And the opposite of ‘grace’ ? I deserve judgment and punishment without mercy and I get exactly what I deserve.
So if the opposite of ‘Law’ is ‘lawlessness’ and the opposite of ‘Grace’ is blind judgment and punishment, then how did we come to the conclusion that ‘Grace’ is the opposite of ‘Law’, that they are an ‘either/or’ ? Could it actually be that Law and Grace are ‘hand in glove’ and work in tandem, that they actually complete one another?
When we read the verses of Paul and the other Biblical writers, both Old and New, we need to remember they all answer to a Higher Authority. It’s kinda like in a secular work setting. There’s the Boss, the Boss’s Son, and those that work for the Boss and His Son. It’s really difficult to keep your job if you contradict the Boss or His Son. And the Son has no credibility if He says one thing and the Boss says another. They all have to be singing from the same page. So what does Yeshua, the Boss’s Son if you will, have to say on this matter ?
Then Jesus said to them, “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things. John 8:28
For I have not spoken of my own accord; but the Father who sent me commanded me what to say and what to speak, 50 and I know that his commands mean eternal life. And therefore what the Father has told me is what I speak. John 12:49-50
“Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own initiative, but the Father abiding in Me does His works.” John 14:10
“For truly I (Yeshua) say to you, heaven and earth will pass away, but not the smallest letter or stroke of the pen shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished.” Matthew 5:18

You see, as most people in the UK were waking up this morning, and those in Europe, United States and elsewhere around the world were going about their daily routines, here in Israel over one million people were running for cover from a hail of rockets being rained down by Palestinian Hamas terrorists in Gaza.
In the last 24 hours alone, over 120 rockets have been fired on southern Israel. That’s approximately five rockets per hour. By the time I finish this article, odds are that count will have risen to 125 rockets.
To put things in context: one million Israelis is roughly 13 per cent of the population. Thirteen per cent of the UK population equates to about 8.4 million people, or the entire population of London.
A number of Israelis have already been injured, though thankfully without fatalities. The only reason more have not been hurt is because Israel has invested millions of dollars in bomb shelters and the Iron Dome defence system. Meanwhile, Hamas, whose very raison d’être is the destruction of Israel and which is recognised as a terrorist organisation both by the EU and UK, has invested millions of dollars in foreign aid into more rockets.
So, where is the outrage?
Since the beginning of this year, Gaza terrorists have fired more than 450 rockets on Israel, with about half of them coming since mid-June, when two Hamas terrorists kidnapped and brutally murdered three Israeli teenagers.
Why is it that a majority of the international community only notices when Israel undertakes its sovereign right, and obligation, to defend its citizens? Can you imagine if even one rocket was fired on London, Washington, Paris or Moscow? This is simply intolerable and no country can, or should, tolerate such attacks on its people.
Where is the outrage from the United Nations, which does not hesitate for a moment to call a “special emergency session” on the “Question of Palestine” or pass the umpteenth resolution blindly condemning Israel? But 24 hours after the rocket attacks on Israel started, I am still waiting for even one syllable of condemnation from the UN Security Council, the UN General Assembly or the Human Rights Council.
Where is the EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, who repeatedly slams Israel over settlement building, but is yet to say a word about the Palestinians firing over 120 rockets on Israeli civilians in one day? Even 10 Downing and the Foreign Office are yet to comment.
Where are all those so-called enlightened liberals, who continue to call for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against the Jewish State, but are silent in the face of Palestinian terror against Jews?
Where are all the human rights organisations like Human Rights Watch, Amnesty and Oxfam, who do not waste a single opportunity to condemn Israel for human rights violations against the Palestinians? Are the human rights of Israelis not equally important? Or is Jewish blood really that cheap?
Where is the outrage from the mainstream media? Instead, news organisations like the BBC, lead their stories about the rocket attacks headlines like ‘Israel launches new air strikes on Gaza Strip’ and not ‘Palestinian Terrorists in Gaza Rain Down Over 120 Rockets Against 1 million Israelis in 24 hours.’
Where is the outage that Iran, which the international community is currently negotiating with over their nuclear weapons program, and which has called for Israel to be wiped off the map, is the primary funder and supplier of arms to Hamas?
Where is the outage that civilians across southern Israel are being instructed not to send their kids to school and stay in bomb shelters, or that 24 prematurely born babies and 34 newborns had to be moved last night to a protected area in Soroka Hospital in Be’er Sheva, due to the rocket attacks from Gaza?
What sort of inhumane way is that for children to live?
Where is the outrage that the very same Hamas now responsible for the rocket fire against millions of Israelis, was only a month ago welcomed by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, our so-called ‘partner for peace’ into his unity government, while the international community, including the EU, rushed to embrace it?
As I conclude, another two rockets were just fired from Gaza. So again, I ask: where is the outrage?

Every religion has it’s own set of set-apart days and special commemorations and celebrations. Whether it be Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Christianity or any one of the other approximately 15 major world religions, along with the hundreds and hundreds of variations and sects, they all have one thing in common – special days. One debate that has rolled on for centuries is the discussion concerning the ‘Biblical Sabbath’ . Judaism and some Christian/Protestant denominations declare the Biblical Sabbath to be the day referred to as Saturday, usually beginning at point on Friday evening to a corresponding point on Saturday evening. Catholicism and the majority of Christian/Protestant groups declare the day referred to as Sunday as the Sabbath. So which day is it, anyway ?
There is a concept we like to refer to as ‘implied authority’. It simply means if Joe (no offence Joe) decides to start a group – Joe’s Group – and people want to be a part of Joe’s Group , Joe has the ‘implied authority’ to set rules and guidelines and the right of expectation for those rules and guidelines to be followed by prospective members. If we carry that concept over to the Bible and view the Bible as the ‘Guide Book for God’s Group’, recognizing God as the One Who started His group, it only follows He has the ‘implied authority’ to set the guidelines for His group and has the right of expectation for members of His group to follow those guidelines as outlined in ‘His Guide Book’ – the Bible.
The word ‘Sabbath’ in the English (Shabbat in Hebrew) appears over 150 times in the King James Version of the Bible and comes from the Hebrew root word of the same basic spelling which means to ‘cease, desist or rest’. The first time the word ‘Sabbath’ is used in the Bible is Exodus 16:23-ff. The first time the root word appears in the Bible is Genesis 2:3 where it reads “ Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested (shabbat) from all His work which God had created and made.” Didn’t Isaiah mention something about ‘God declaring the end out of the beginning’? (Isaiah 46:10) Genesis would qualify as ‘the beginning’, wouldn’t it ? From that point on, every time the word ‘Sabbath’ is used is in reference to the 7th day, or a day or event based on the principles of that day of the week – the 7th day.
Exodus 20:8 “Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.”
(number 4 of the Ten Commandments . . . you know, that document we want to hang around everywhere . . .) Did you know as far back as we can go in recorded history ( which I guess is as far back as we can go ) the day we refer to as Saturday has always been the 7th day ? You can check that out with the US Naval Observatory. Have you ever noticed how most calendars show Sunday as the first day of the week and Saturday as the seventh . . . even secular calendars ?
Now here’s a neat little bit of information. The Hebrew word ‘Sabbath’ is basically comprised of three Hebrew letters – Shin v ( ‘sh’ sound ), bayt b (‘b’ sound), and tav t ( ‘t’ sound ). Interestingly, the shin represents Shaddai – God Almighty, bayt is the word for ‘house’, and tav is ‘the mark’. Literally, the word Shabbat can be defined as ‘the mark on the house of the Almighty’. The House of The Almighty – the group God started.

ONE WAY OR ANOTHER, THE WORD GOES OUT . . .
One of the first postings we placed on Facebook was a slightly different version of the following article . We tweaked it every so slightly for the newspaper audience, but the changes were slight. The editor of the Danville paper refused to print the article citing it as political in nature and not appropriate for the ‘Religion Page’ of the Danville paper. Under the circumstances of recent developments locally, we felt it imperative to re-post this article. Once they refused to print the article, we decided to re-post this on our blog and Facebook. We replied to them our disappointment with the editor’s refusal. We cannot share the editor’s remarks to us, based on privacy issues, but, upon, request, will share with you our response to the paper. Shalom –
The Last Straw
Lev. 18:21 “And you shall not give of your seed to serve a ruler; you shall not profane my holy name; I am YAHWEH your God.” 22 “And a man shall not lie with a man as with a woman, for it is a detestable thing before the LORD.”
Gen. 12:3 “I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors or disesteems you I will curse . . .”
Romans 1:25-28 “ . . . because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. 26 For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; 27 and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error. 28 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done.”
Eze 24:13 Your filth is infamous. Since I have tried to purge you and you would not let yourself be purged of your filth, so now you will never be purged of your filth until I have sated my anger on you. 14 I, Yahweh, have spoken; this will happen; I shall act and not relent; I shall show no pity, no compassion. You will be judged as your conduct and actions deserve — declares the Lord Yahweh.” ‘
Gen. 15:16 “ . . . for the iniquity of the Amorite is not yet complete.”
As we were talking about things in the news, these are some passages that came to mind in light of all that is in the news concerning the homosexual movement.
Allow us to preface with this statement. We are not bashing homosexuals. We are not declaring people who live a homosexual lifestyle to be evil, wicked or detestable in their character. Every person has the right to make their own choices. And we will fight for a person’s right to make their own choices, even if we do not agree with the decision. But choices come with consequences. The Bible states this is how God sees the practice – the choice – of homosexuality, not necessarily the practitioner.
There are at least these three things that GOD will not tolerate for long – shedding of innocent blood, a leadership stance against Israel, and sanctioned support of homosexuality. There is a connection here we need to explore for the sake of our understanding of what is to come.
When the leadership of a group speaks to or over that group, it invokes a sort of ‘covering’ or blessing over that group – and that covering can be positive or negative depending on what was spoken.
President Barak Obama, by his very name, literally carries the ‘blessing of the high place’ or ‘bama’, which is not a good thing ( explanation to follow) . When he and/or his administration put forth statements, actions and orders – some of which are contrary to the very nature of GOD – it has the potential to literally produce a dark covering or false blessing if you will, over the population of the nation, the ‘subjects’ of this leader, and can lead the population into a state of sin unless they openly, spiritually stand against that ‘covering’.
A word of explanation . . . There are two words in the Hebrew ( and Arabic ) that are homonyms . . . they sound alike, spelled similarly, with differing definitions . The Hebrew (and Arabic) word for ‘blessing’ would be transliterated into the English with the spelling ‘k’- barak. The Hebrew word (and Arabic) for ‘lightning’ sounds the same but would be spelled with a with English equivalent letter ‘q’ – Baraq. Perhaps some of you have heard of the ‘Bema seat of Christ’ – the exalted throne of Messiah Yeshua. The counterfeit of ‘Bema’ is ‘bama’ – the idolatrous high places ( cultic platforms, either structural or ideological ) mentioned over 100 times with much disdain in the Scriptures. Barak O’Bama’s name – as he spells it (with a k instead of the q) – literally translates ‘blessing of the high place’. Do you remember the news reports of the current President carrying tiny carved images of hindu and buddhist idols, ‘blessed’ by the priests of those religions prior to his election that he might win that election? Barak stated he was a Christian. But by his open acceptance and statement of thanks and open acceptance of the blessings of and upon these idols (and of the priests that gave and blessed them) he was stating otherwise. It was done in daylight, in plain view (shown on TV), not under the cover of darkness, for all to see. Sadly, few saw what was openly being played out and shown.
So we currently have a leader that is regularly placing the people of this nation under a false blessing or ‘dark covering’ contrary to the very nature and Word of the God of the Bible, as evidenced by the President’s stance, open acceptance and promotion of homosexuality. By his ( the highest office in the land ) open declaration and acceptance on behalf of this nation’s peoples, the door and acceptance for this practice has been flung completely wide open, evidenced by the ramping up of the move in that direction by our leadership, courts and now every aspect of our society, our communties and even some of our churches. It is no longer being flirted with around the edges of our society but is now going full bore to being fully integrated and embraced as an acceptable lifestyle in our society. Translation ? …. a false blessing. I fear we are so near to “the fullness of the sin of the Amorite”…… it truly is ‘a fearful thing to fall into the hands of a living GOD’.
The opening passages of this article show the connection in the thoughts of God between ‘the shedding of innocent blood’ and homosexuality. Both are detestable in His sight. There is also an overriding theme in Scripture concerning God’s reaction to those that would stand against the ‘place where He has put His Name forever’ and the people of that Place, namely Israel in general and Jerusalem in specific. We see in Paul’s writing to the congregation in Rome that due to the rebellion of the people, God ‘turned them over’ to their homosexual propensities. ( we didn’t write that, Paul did ) The increase in open support of homosexuality is a strong indication, based on Scripture, of where we are as a nation and what we can expect. Not only is it a detestable practice in God’s eyes, but it is also that which HE gives a people over to when they refuse to accept His Truth and His ways, when they dishonor Him by esteeming Him lightly.
It is no coincidence that as we continue to take a posture – as a nation, as communities and as denominations – against Israel and her people; as we continue to give our seed over to the god of convenience and expedience through abortion; as we condone, sanction, and even enforce the homosexual lifestyle, we see a rise in homosexuality in this nation. It becomes a ‘self-fulfilling prophecy’. One thing you can be sure of. God will not tolerate this much longer.
What must we do as His people, sojourning in this place ? Pray for mercy. Stand for the truth of His Word. Speak the truth of His Word, in love, firmly with compassion, uncompromised and undiluted. And when we have done all to stand, then stand. Be like Nehemiah, for when he had finished speaking and doing all that God had instructed him, he lifted his hands to the heavens and cried aloud – ‘ God, remember me, for I have done as you commanded. Remember me in the time of Your judgment and recompense.’
May Abba bless, keep and extend Mercy in the days to come –
