The greek word for ‘GOSPEL’ is Strong’s #2098 (euaggelion) and comes from the same as #2097 (euaggelizo), from where the words ‘evangelist’ and ‘evangelize’ originate. So, an ‘evangelist’ is one who ‘evangelizes’ which is defined as ‘bringing the Good News’ – The Gospel. The Hebrew word for ‘GOSPEL’ is Strong’s #1320 (basar – bayt, sheen, raysh), root of which (interestingly enough) is the word for ‘FLESH’ #3019, having the same Hebrew spelling. By the way, the spelling of that three-letter root is a sermon and ‘Torah Code’ all it’s own.
So, based on the Hebrew, what is ‘The Gospel’? The Promised Messiah has come and taken on ‘Flesh’ to ultimately atone for fleshly man’s sins of the flesh. And if we remember, Hebrew root words are usually verbs – action words – then the Gospel, in an Hebraic sense, is, by definition, something we ‘do’ and ‘publish’ and not just that which we are and that which we exhibit.
What’s The Word say about this? Let’s take a look . . .

‘And Yeshua said to them “Go into all the world and preach The Gospel to ALL creation” . . .’ Mark 16:15

“ . . . The Lord has anointed (Me) to preach The Gospel . . .” Isaiah 61:1 ( a sign of the Messiah)

‘Jesus preached The Gospel in the synagogues . . . Luke 20:1

So why do we need ‘The Gospel’ ?

“For ALL have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God.” Romans 3:23

“For ALL we, like sheep, have gone astray . . .” Isaiah 53:6

“ . . . for I (YHWH) will renew the covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, the covenant which they broke . . .” Jeremiah 31:31-32

It sounds as if ALL have sinned (transgression of the Torah – 1 John 5:3) and ALL are in need of a Saviour and we are to publish this Gospel to ALL creation. And yet we are told ‘not to evangelize the jews’. So if ALL have sinned ( and we ALL have) and ALL need a personal Lord and Saviour (and we do) and we are commanded by Messiah to publish this Gospel to ALL ( and we have been commanded), so why should the jewish people be segregated from this saving Good News? For in Messiah, there is no difference between Jew and greek, male and female, etc. If Father God is NOT a respecter of persons, why should the jewish people be denied the hearing of the cure for this disease of sin? (Romans 10:14-15). Strange . . . The Word declares ‘all should hear’ and yet we are to told not to publish this Truth to the jews? And we get accused of being ‘anti-semitic . . . strange, indeed . . . Shalom

One of many Truths I have learned from my ‘better half’ in these past years is this fact – “God never works down a one-way street . . . He never does just one thing”.

Case in point? The Holy Spirit.

“And I will put My Spirit in you (says YHVH) and move you to follow My decrees and be careful to keep My laws. ” (Eze 36:27)

And why were the Laws and decrees given? The goal of The Law is to bring us to Salvation/Yeshua and show us our sin and our need for Him and to reconcile us back to our Father. (Romans 10:4, 7:7, 5:10)

And how do we come to the Father? No one comes unless they are drawn (John 6:44) and they must come through The Son (John 14:6), or more specifically, the work of The Son on the cross. (John 3:16-ff)

And how does Father draw us? Through the convincing/convicting power of Holy Spirit. (John 16:8) “For The Spirit brings conviction in regards to sin, righteousness and judgment.”

And as Holy Spirit leads, He leads us into Truth (John 16:13) He is our teacher and the One who reminds us of those things said. (John 14:26).

And then there is the work of Holy Spirit to give the ‘gifts of the Spirit severally as He sees fit’ for the good of the Body and the Glory of our Father and His Kingdom. (1 Cor. 12:7-11) And that is not the end of the work of Ruach, but merely some highlights.

So, back to the original statement – God never does just one thing . . . He never works down a one-way street. Shalom
